Shirley Mae Pankow

Shirley Mae Pankow Hemlock, Michigan Passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2020, at her home. Age 91 years. The daughter of the late Henrietta (Schroeder) and Ernst Masch was born May 10, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan. She graduated from Pershing High School and received her Bachelors degree from Concordia Teachers College. She married Rev. Edward R. Pankow, June 15, 1952. He passed away January 12, 2012. Shirley served in the churches with her husband, teaching in Texas and for 28 years at St. Peters Lutheran School in Hemlock. She was very active with many of the church groups and committees. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and quilting and was active with the Church quilting group. She was a 4H instructor and enjoyed watching birds. Surviving are two sons, a daughter and their spouses, David and Kae Pankow; Paul Pankow; Sue and Tiger Holtrop; four grandchildren and their spouses, Janae and Dallas Smock; Sarah and Dr. Derek Hirschman; Dr. John Holtrop and Jacob Holtrop; four great grandchildren, Bodhi, Barrett and Bridger Smock, Henley Hirshman; a sister, Marilyn Gotsch; a sister-in-law, Jeanne Masch; several nieces and nephews. A son, John Pankow, and a brother, David Masch, have predeceased her. The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 20, 2020, at St. Peters Lutheran Church, 2461 N. Raucholz Rd. Hemlock. Rev. Dr. William L. Morris will officiate with burial in Richland Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may visit at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Rd. from 2:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday and then on Monday at the Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
