Stephen "Steve" James Horny Jr.

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Stephen James Horny Jr. of Sanford, Michigan at the age of 57.  Steve was born on October 10, 1966 in Tipton, Indiana to Diana Lee (Kessler) Horny and Stephen J. Horny Sr. Steve’s family moved back to the Merrill area in 1967. He was a member of Merrill High School Class of 1985. Steve attended Delta College and worked for Site Services at Dow Corning Corp., Stryker’s Marina, Midland Rental Center, Hovey Electric, and Windemuller Electric during his lifetime. He was a member of St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church and volunteered as a Sacristan. Steve was also a member of the James Cardinal Hickey Knights of Columbus Council #14056.

Steve loved vacationing in the Upper Peninsula every summer, boating on Wixom lake where he owned a cottage for many years, Red Wings hockey, University of Michigan football, hunting, and NASCAR races. Steve was super friendly and could carry on a conversation with anyone. He actively followed his children’s sports activities and loved his family with his whole heart.

Steve is predeceased by his mother Diana Horny. He is survived by his children Joshua (Meredith) Hovey of Auburn, AL, Sophia Hovey of Midland, and Alycia Hovey of Midland. His granddaughter Frances Hovey of Auburn, AL. His father Stephen J. Horny Sr. and special friend Carol Girard, sisters Ann Fairchild (Kevin) Butcher and Michelle Horny. Nephews Joe Fairchild, and Brent Fairchild. Niece Suzy Fairchild-Cole. Great Nieces Layla Cole, Morgan Fairchild, and Amelia Fairchild. Great Nephews Brian Cole, Brady Cole, and Hunter Fairchild.

Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at W.L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 4480 Mackinaw Rd, Saginaw, MI 48603, where a memorial service will follow at 12:00 p.m. Rev. Fr. Jim Bessert will officiate the service.
