Steven Frank Browning of James Township
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, passed away with his family by his side, on November 16, 2023. He was 70 years old. Steven Frank Browning was born on April 25, 1953, in Saginaw, Michigan, to Franklin and Patricia (Mavis) Browning. He was a proud 1971 graduate of Douglas MacArthur High School. Following graduation, Steven attended Western Michigan University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering in 1975. While in college, he met the love of his life and best friend, Susan Carol Snow. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on July 31, 1976. Steve worked as an engineer and formed many friendships while working for Thompson Products, Eaton Manufacturing, and Nexteer. He was blessed to live in a neighborhood with kind and selfless neighbors who were always willing to help each other without asking. The role of his lifetime was to be a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Throughout his life, Steve held a deep love and affinity toward children. He used this passion to pursue a bachelor’s degree in education at Saginaw Valley State University. He was a faithful and longtime member of the Merrill Wesleyan Church and captivated the attention of his Sunday School students for over 38 years. He loved to show the students how events from Biblical days were tied to modern day events and make them weird and unusual treats. He and his wife worked on many children’s musicals, and he enjoyed taking his class to ballgames, corn mazes and local events. Steve enjoyed fishing, camping, bowling, playing cards and various boardgames with anyone and everyone. Steve also enjoyed traveling (which usually meant running into a hurricane), but he treasured and cherished all the memories with his family and friends. Kind and selfless to everyone they met, Steven and Susan’s home, often entertained friends old and new, and everyone also left with a good home cooked meal. He will forever be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, his ability to make anyone laugh, for inspiring and believing in all children regardless of their station or situation in life, and for truly living an amazing life filled with many beautiful memories and stories.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Susan C. Browning of James Township; a son, Jeremy (Susanne) Browning of Grabill, IN; a daughter, Jennifer (Krushanu) Joseph of Palatine, IL; four grandchildren: Lexi, Chrissy, Corin, and Maddie; father, Franklin Browning of Saginaw; a sister, Wendy (Scott) Feinauer of Freeland; a sister-in-law, Sally (Steven) Young of Montrose; and a brother-in-law, Albert (Susan) Snow of Hemlock. Also surviving are many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Ann Browning, and his grandparents.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to his immediate family, church family, his hospice nurse, cousins, and neighbors for visiting, checking in, and helping with anything needed.
