Kowalec, Thadeus E. Saginaw, Michigan Beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2013. Age 85 years. He was born July 30, 1928, in Hamtramck, Michigan. He served with the US Army during World War II, serving with the Army of Occupation in Japan. He was an engineer, and was employed by General Motors for over 20 years. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and also of the American Legion Post #439. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He married Virginia Malek, who predeceased him April 15, 1976. He later married Romaine (Holka) Drzewicki, who predeceased him July 6, 1988. Surviving are his dear friend, Jean Kendall; two daughters, one son and their spouses, Paula and Bill Nancarrow, Saginaw; Karen Wescott, Ohio; Matthew and Shannon Kowalec, Traverse City; seven grandchildren, Jason and Jennifer Nancarrow, Jacob (Diana), Adam and Lauren Wescott, Candice and Travis Kowalec; three great-grandchildren, Josie, Harper and Grady; six stepchildren and their spouses, Gary and Barb Drzewicki, Mark and Darlena Drzewicki, Paul and Mary Drzewicki, Steve Drzewicki, Connie and Al Sniecinski, and Ron Drzewicki; fourteen step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and their families. A brother, Chester Kowalec, predeceased him. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N. River Road, where his family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. Wednesday until the time of service. Rev. Fr. Peter Gaspeny will officiate.
