Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and aunt, passed away early Thursday, November 2, 2017, at Hoyt Nursing and Rehab Centre at the age of 100 years and one day old. Thelma F. Bass was born November 1, 1917, in Midland, Michigan, and was the last living child of 14 born to the late Charles James and Effie (Caughell) Bass. She was a long-time member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Thelma enjoyed bowling, fishing, camping, and word search puzzles. Most important of all, she loved time spent with her family and all her grandchildren. She married Vincent Matuzak December 17, 1938; he predeceased her September 27, 1993. Two daughters, three sons and their spouses, Ruth and Robert Dunn, Michael Matuzak, Patrick and Paula Matuzak, Jeffrey and Karla Matuzak, Lisa and Robert White, all of Saginaw; 20 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; many, many loving nieces, nephews and their families. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Edward Premo; a grandson, Justin Matuzak; a great-grandson, Corey Premo; and all of her 13 siblings. Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 6, 2017, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N. River Road, Saginaw, MI 48609. Rev. Fr. Peter Gaspeny will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Her family will receive friends at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road, from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, where a parish vigil will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday. Family and friends may then gather at the church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
