Thomas D. Burkhart "Tom" "Mr. B" Attorney At Law Saginaw
Passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Covenant Harrison after a brief illness. 63 years young.
Tom was born in Gladwin, Michigan, son of the late Gwen and Orval Burkhart. He attended Gladwin High School, Central Michigan University, and University of Detroit Law School. He was admitted to the Michigan Bar as an attorney on July 10, 1979 and to the Court of Appeals Sixth Circuit on December 11, 1981. He was a law clerk in the Court of Appeals and practiced law with the firms of Burns & Burkhart; Burkhart, Tiderington & Loeffler; and Burkhart, Tiderington, McLeod & Picard. Tom found practicing law his true passion in life.
Tom had served as the associate editor of urban law, on many local family law committees, and on the Board of Directors of the former Germania Club. He was a member of Maple Hill Golf Club and the State Bar of Michigan.
Tom was a "forever 60s" renaissance man. He enjoyed rock 'n roll, jazz and the blues. Playing his "GOLD TOP" guitar most evenings put a smile on his face. He was known as a stoic golfer...a man who could recite all of the rules and made sure his "group" always played by them.
Surviving besides his wife of 20 years, Sherry (LaRocque) and his rescue Sheltie, Rosiegirl, are his stepson, Shay (Maura) Church and his grandchildren, Mayla and Greysen; his brothers, Bruce (Sandy) Burkhart and John (Marlene) Burkhart; his sisters-in-law, Margaret Burkhart and Denise Sampson; mother-in-law Gloria Krenz; many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews; aunts and cousins; his close friends Spence (Sheila) Dambro. Tom was predeceased by his brother, William Burkhart.
Because Tom's philosophy was "keeping it simple", a showing and celebration of life will take place on Sunday, August 17, 2014 from 1:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Home, 4480 Mackinaw Rd., Saginaw, Michigan 48603. Sharing of "memories of Tom" will take place from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. A private burial will be held on Monday in Gladwin. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to any animal rescue or shelter, The Thomas Burkhart Scholarship Fund (for law or music) to be established through the Saginaw Community Foundation, or the charity of choice.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Covenant Cooper and Harrison nursing staff, Chaplain Father Richard, and Dr. Omer Mirza for their care and compassion during this past month.
