Thomas Franklin Guthrie

Passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at the age of 89 years. The son of the late Pearl (Board) and Sanford Guthrie was born on May 28, 1928 in Reedy, West Virginia. He married Elizabeth Hatzke on June 17, 1950 and they resided in Hemlock, MI. Elizabeth predeceased him a few short months ago in December 2017. Thomas was employed in Hemlock with various agriculture and grain elevator businesses until he retired. He worked closely with area farmers at the grain elevator grinding the farmers grain for food for their livestock and as a salesman of farm chemicals and seeds for harvest. When he retired, he spent time fishing, hunting and camping. His most enjoyment was going to Michigans Upper Peninsula in November for deer camp. Tom enjoyed his family and friends and the great outdoors. Thomas was drafted into the Korean War and served his country proudly in the United States Army. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Deanna and Mike Mazar; A daughter-in-law, Lori Guthrie; three grandsons: Anthony (Deidra) Guthrie; Gregory Guthrie; Christopher (Missy) Mazar; and five great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, David Guthrie and three brothers and two sisters. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2018 at St. John XXIII Parish, St. Mary in Hemlock Church, 151 St. Mary Drive, Hemlock. Rev. Dennis J. Kucharczyk will officiate. Friends may call at the Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Toni and Trish House or St. John XXIII Parish, St. Mary in Hemlock Church.
