Thomas L. Foy, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, July 24, 2019. Age 88 years.
Tom was born July 17, 1931 in Hemlock, Michigan, son of the late Joseph and Anna Mae (Kalahar) Foy. He graduated from Merrill Sacred Heart with the class of 1950. Upon graduation, Tom enlisted in the U.S. Army, Airborne Division and earned his wings as a paratrooper. Tom was a lifelong member of the St. Johns XXIII (Sacred Heart) Church in Merrill. Tom was employed by the Dow Chemical Company for 30 plus years.
Tom, who was known as "Tom Cat," nicknamed by his mother-in-law, had many interests; including being an avid University of Michigan, Detroit Tiger and Detroit Pistons fan. He loved to travel, specifically enjoying his casino excursions. Tom proudly coached the Merrill Family Pharmacy Mens Softball team for many years. He was a loyal supporter in various sporting events of his children and grandchildren.
Tom married the love of his life, Wanda Michael, on February 20, 1954. She survives him. Surviving besides his wife, of 65 years are his six children; Pam (David) Zeitler, Mike (Shelly) Foy, Mark (Holly) Foy, LouAnn (Steve) Wagoner, Bill (Michelle) Foy and Lisa (Brian) Fleming.
Tom relished being an integral part of the lives of his 15 special grandchildren; Brian Zeitler, April (Terri) Mullen, Michael (Melissa) Foy, Samatha Foy, Patrick Foy, Krysten (Scott) Crowl, Andrew (Sabrina) Foy, Julie (Justin) Miles, Kimberly (Drew) Garno, Marcus (Hayley) Newvine, Jennifer (Blake)Huffman, Hannah Foy, Jake Fleming, Alex Fleming, Ben Fleming, Nathan and Spencer Wagoner.
He also has 12 great grandchildren; Grace, Natalie and Paige Mullen, Peyton and Michael Thomas Foy III, Gabe, Bryce and Jack Crowl, Jada and Jenna Miles, Gwen and Gavyn Garno, and baby boy Huffman.
Also surviving Tom are his sisters, Louise Wardin and Shirley Cates as wellas and brother, Duane (Judy) Foye, along with brother in-law, Robert (Mary Jane) Michael and sister-in-law, Jackie Foye.
He was predeceased by his great granddaughter, Julia Mullen, brothers, Harold Foy, James Foye, and Donald Foye, his brothers-in-law, Melvin Wardin, Donald Cates, Kenneth Michael, William Michael, Lloyd Brown, Joseph Sampson, and Charles Erway, sisters-in-law, Lois Foy, Mary Jean Foye, Virginia Michael, Rhea Erway, Lucille Sampson, Grace Brown, Francis Michael, and Veronica Breasbois.
Memorial Liturgy will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 29, 2019, at St. John XXIII Parish, Sacred Heart Church, 419 S. Midland Street, Merrill. Fr, Andy LaFramboise will officiate. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, July 28, 2019, at W. L. Case and Company, 125 E. Saginaw, Merrill, from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. where the family will be present for a rosary service at 7:00 p.m. and on Monday at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
