Vera E. Nichols

Vera E. Nichols, 97, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 14, 2020. Vera was born in Rocky Mount, NC on September 7, 1922 to the late Alice (Davis) and Stephen Atkinson. She married Lewis Bennett Moore in 1940, who preceded her in death. In 1948 she married Herman Nichols and they moved to Saginaw, MI in 1953, he also preceded her. Vera was a member of First Baptist Church for many years. She enjoyed bowling on the church bowling league. Vera held various jobs over the years.
Surviving are three daughters and two sons, Nina (Ron) Schwarzkopf, Lewis (Jeanette) Moore, and Gloria Grover all of Saginaw, MI, Brenda (Tom) Gatza of Bay City, MI, David (Joan) Nichols of Rock Hill, SC; grandchildren Tom DePlonty, Kelly DePlonty Mangano, Darren DePlonty, Kris Maturen Norman, Sherry Nutt, Alicia Reinbolt, Gregory Grover, Rodney Grover, Brian Bottke, Jodi Holnagel, Muniz Rangel, Austin Rangel, Houston Rangel, Jennifer Olesinski, Jamie Goebel; many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded by her parents and by four children, Juanita Rangel, Herman Nichols, Jr., Patricia DePlonty, and Elizabeth (Betsy) Fauver, and one grandchild, Tracy Bottke.
A funeral service for Vera and a memorial for Elizabeth (Betsy) Fauver will be held on Monday, July 20, 2020 11:00 a.m. at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. with Pastor Bill Bodnar officiating. Friends may call at the funeral chapel on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. With State restrictions due to the covid-19 pandemic, all visitors will be asked to wear a face covering. The family want to thank the staff at Stone Crest Assisted Living in Freeland, MI for the years of care they provided for Vera. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to Old Town Christian Outreach or Teen Challenge.
