Vicky Luvena Szappan

Marion Twp, Michigan

Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away suddenly on Friday, April 25, 2025, with her family at her side. Age 61 years.

The daughter of Joyce M. (Liner) and the late Wilbur E. Kroll, Vicky was born on February 1, 1964, in Saginaw, Michigan. She graduated from Merrill High School. Vicky continued her education at Delta College, where she obtained her Associates Degree. She married Steven M. Szappan on February 2, 1985. They shared many wonderful years together. He survives her. Vicky dedicated herself to the service of others, having served two terms as Treasurer for Marion Township. Her commitment extended beyond her official duties. Vicky was known for her willingness to volunteer her time and provide in-home care, touching the lives of many with her compassion. She was a member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church of Marion Springs. Vicky found joy in gardening and shopping. Known for her social and outgoing nature, Vicky built lasting relationships within her community and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Surviving besides her husband, Steve Szappan are their son and daughter, Chad Szappan, Trisha Szappan; grandchildren, Lilly Szappan, Alivia King, Tyler Szappan; mother, Joyce Kroll; brothers and sisters, Jerry (Michelle) Kroll, Randy (Jenny) Kroll, Kathy (William) Evans, Amy (Brad) Wallworth. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Besides her father, Vicky was preceded her death by her daughter, Jennifer Szappan; mother-in-law, Sylvia Szappan; brother-in-law, Mark Szappen.

Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 125 E Saginaw St, Merrill, MI 48637. Rev. Richard Lewis will officiate with burial to follow at Marion Township Cemetery. Friends may visit the family from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the funeral chapel.
