Viola Lucille Hawley (Hall-Withey)

Beloved mother, grandmother, and sister passed away in her home in Birch Run, Michigan, on Friday, December 8^th, 2023, at the age of 90. Viola was born in Ogemaw County on November 2^nd, 1933, to the late Claude & Luella (Walker) Hall, and was raised by the late John and Gladys Withey. She graduated from West Branch High School with the class of 1951 and married Samuel “Sam” David Hawley shortly after on April 10^th, 1954. She spent her working years keeping the books for Sam’s business and, most importantly to her, raising her two children. She could never leave behind her childhood on the farm and that carried forward into her hobbies. Viola loved to keep a garden full of both food and flowers, and spent her time canning the veggies that she grew. She loved staying active bowling and playing cards with her card club, especially euchre, and was a passionate follower of the Detroit Tigers. Viola is remembered as a loving and caring woman who put everyone before herself, and as a person who was content with the simple and happy life she lived.

Viola is survived by children Keith Hawley and Vicky (Mark Schneider) King; granddaughter Sarah (Jason) Miller; and sisters Alice, Lola, Claudia, and Joyce; as well as many nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.

Viola was preceded in death by brothers Clarence, Byron, and Lee; sisters Mildred, Winnie, and Edwina; brothers-in-law Bill, Don, and Aceil; and sisters-in-law Joanne and Arlene.

A funeral service for Viola will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, December 15^th, 2023, at W.L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 5700 Dixie Hwy, Saginaw, MI 48601, with Rev. Julie Bailey presiding. Visitation will take place at the funeral home from 12:00pm until the time of service, with burial to follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.
