Schmid, Virginia Saginaw, MI The family of Virginia Mae (Ginny) Schmid is saddened by her passing on Wednesday, March 2, 2016. She went quietly in the Saginaw home of her dear son Greg and beloved daughter-in-law Jodi Davis, surrounded by her family. Ginny was born April 19, 1929 in Holloway, Lenawee County , MI on her parents' (Harvey and Mabel Lewis) fruit farm; the youngest of three siblings. Sister Harriet Austin and brother George Lewis predeceased her. She attended a one room Ford school, of which she was very proud, until she left home for college. At Albion College, she joined the Delta Zeta Sorority and met her lifelong best friend Kathryn McCready Vaughan. She transferred to MSU after her marriage to Allan Carl Schmid, of Petersburg, MI in 1949; then to St. Mary's College in South Bend, IN where she graduated with a teaching degree. She taught school in South Bend in support of her family and husband who was in law school at Notre Dame. In 1955 the family moved to Saginaw where Allan practiced law and Ginny raised their 5 children. In 1977, Ginny moved to Glen Arbor, MI and searched for an "up north" home while her youngest, "the twins", graduated from Leelanau School. On the Narrows Apts. Resort on Big Glen Lake in the heart of the Sleeping Near Dunes National Lake shore brought her a lovely home to embrace her family; a new best friend in Millie Kamensky; and many great neighbors and friends. She resumed her career at Traverse Bay Area Career Tech Center in Traverse City until her retirement in 1994; thereafter devoting her time and considerable energy and delegating skills to the resort and her friends and family. Ginny will be remembered for her love of sailing, her kitties, clean Windows and 10, 000 one liners. She liked reading, Rummicube, puzzles, and being with friends and family. She enjoyed travel to warm weather in winter; and spending the rest of the year at home in her summer paradise. Ginny was preceeded in death by her husband Allan, and two sons, Philip Allan and David Mark. She is survived by son, Gregory Carl, daughters Kathryn Marie and Melanie Jane, and daughters-in-law Jodi Davis and Sandra Schmid. She also left one grandson, Michael Schmid, and 6 grand daughters, Christine Lauzon, Sarah Schmid, Carla Hadden, Stephanie Fries, Cassidy Schmid and Alyssa Schmid; as well as 5 great grandchildren, Sophia and Zoe, Conner, Erica and Riley. Ginny delighted and amused us as she enjoyed her charmed life on the shore of big Glen Lake, spreading joy and good cheer. A memorial service is planned for mid-spring at her home. A donation to any humane society or animal rescue organization in lieu of flowers is appreciated.
