Vivian Mae Engelke Saginaw, Michigan Passed away Monday, December 16, 2013, at Luther Manor. Age 89 years. The daughter of the late Wilbur and Irene (Girlock) Markhart was born September 25, 1924 in Saginaw, Michigan. She was a graduate of Saginaw High School and attended Moody Bible College. She married Paul W. Engelke, January 11, 1947. He passed away June 12, 2006. Vivian was employed by Singer Sewing Machine Co. as a sewing instructor and also worked as a seamstress in bridal shops. Mr. and Mrs. Engelke served as Foster Parents for over forty children. Vivian was a very active volunteer in the community, volunteering at the Aleda Lutz Veteran's Adm. Hospital; HealthSource Saginaw; St. Mary's of Michigan in their thrift shop; with the Saginaw Fair and made Easter dresses for the Salvation Army. She was a member of the Beacon of Hope Church, the Red Hat Society and served as a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts. She enjoyed playing cards, games, knitting, crocheting and sewing. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Ron Dexter; a daughter-in-law, Gail Engelke; four grandchildren and their spouses, Mindy and Brandon Behm; Cheri Bordeau; Sabrina and Josh Slagter; Tia and Josh Krieger; seven great grandchildren, Sara and Ethan Bordeau; Gabby and Caleb Behm; Lily and Paige Slagter; Jayden Krieger; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Harold High; a sister-in-law, Esther Markhart; several nieces and nephews. Her son, David Engelke, a brother, Duane Markhart and a sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and George Lauckner have predeceased her. The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 20, 2013, at the W.L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. Saginaw. Rev. Tucker Gunneman will officiate with entombment in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the Chapel from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday.
