Vlasta Kopta Merrill, Michigan
A lifelong resident of Merrill passed away Friday, May 24, 2019 at Hearts Content at the age of 102. Vlasta was born December 24, 1916 in Ashley, Michigan, the daughter of the late James and Anna (Matousek) Skaryd. She married Charles Kopta on June 18, 1937 in Angola, Indiana, they were married for 51 years; he preceded her death on June 5, 1988. She was a member of Congregational Church in Merrill. She was very proud of her Czech heritage and was a lifetime member of ZCJB Lodge in Bannister, Michigan. She was a member of the Lakefield Quilters group and enjoyed going to Senior Citizens get togethers. She loved visiting with people, always had a joke to tell and candy in her pocket. Bingo and cards were her favorite past times. She dearly loved her family and was proud of all of them.
Surviving are a daughter, Norma and Tom Moulton; a son, Albert and Shirley Kopta; eight grandchildren, Cheri Schoof, Tom and Sue Moulton, Judy and Rod Vesterfelt, David and Kathy Moulton, Jeannine and Marc Varner, Gary and Debbie Kopta, Lisa and Steve Story, Trisha Kopta and fianc Rob Lamont; twenty-one great-grandchildren, Ray and Angie, Joe and Corrie, Jimmy and Britney, Aiden, Eric, Deanne and John, Darrell and Claire, Allen and Whitney, Shayna, Charlien and Austin, Katelynn, Meghan and Juan, Sheridan and Zac, Aiden, Rylan, Brian and Sarah, Brandon, Travis, Taylor and Brian, Brooke, Brieann and Mark, Calib; fourteen great-great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Cole, Bryce, Everly, Trevor, Madeline, Kaline, Lily, Harper, Del, Oliviana, Hayden, Liam, Tyler Rae and one due in September. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Vlasta is preceded in death by her parents; husband; great-grandson, Drayson; great-granddaughters Alivia and Lilliana; two brothers and five sisters.
A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 125 E. Saginaw Street. Burial will follow at Lakefield Township Cemetery. Friends may visit the family from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider ZCJB Lodge or Jonesfield-Lakefield Fire Department. Also, a special thank you from the family to the staff at Hearts Content, especially Ed and Sue for the great care of our Mom.
