Obertein, Wayne Oran Saginaw, Michigan Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away Sunday morning, April 2, 2017, at his home, at the age of 67 years. Wayne was born October 30, 1949, in Bay City, Michigan, the son of the late Oran Pearl and Jeanne Elizabeth (Crosby) Obertein. He graduated from Akron-Fairgrove High School with the Class of 1967. He served with the US Army in the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of SP4. Wayne was deservedly proud of his service, and had 100% service connected disability. Wayne retired as Grocery Manager for the Kroger Store in Frankenmuth. He was a life-member of the Frankenmuth VFW Post #2725. He was an avid outdoorsman and was a member of the NRA and Outdoor Adventures. He enjoyed hunting with his family at a hunting camp which was enjoyed by six generations. He also enjoyed fishing and camping with his family and his special camping buddies: his grandchildren. Wayne was a brave, faith-filled man, who will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor. Wayne married Carolyn Florence Evans on December 2, 1972; she survives him. He also leaves three daughters and one son, Crystal Meleanie (Brian Keith) Claus, Sunshine Skye (Craig Allen) Young, Summer Eve (Stephen Donald) Inman, and John Wayne (Kelly Nichole) Obertein; his nine beloved grandsons, Enoch Thomas Davis IV, Jacob Andrew Claus, Joshua John Claus, Caleb Luke Claus, Eric Spencer Young, Dustin Wayne Young, Gage Alexzander Inman, John Landon Obertein and Luke David Obertein; three sisters, Cynthia Ann (Warren Harold) Myrick, Gloria Jeanne (the late Chester Thomas) Dinsmore and Pamela Marie Hunter; many nieces, nephews and their families. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by another beloved grandson, Kenneth Wayne Obertein; a brother, John Jeffrey Obertein; parents-in-law, Margaretta Betty (Foor) and Robert Morris Evans Sr.; one sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Nancy Lynn and Howard David King, and Chester Thomas Dinsmore. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Bridgeport Community Church, 3821 State Street, Bridgeport. Pastor Ronald L. Sinclair will officiate. Burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 10, 2017, at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Military honors will be under the auspices of the Birch Run VFW Post #7542. Wayne's family will receive friends at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 5700 Dixie Highway, from 2:00 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 9:00 p.m. on Friday. Members of the Frankenmuth VFW Post #2725 will do a memorial walk through at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Friends and family may then gather at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
