William G. Elliott

June 27, 1934 — January 26, 2016

William G. Elliott

Passed away peacefully at the age of 81 after an eight-month struggle of complications from diabetes. The nurses from Stone Crest Assisted Living, the most loving, caring women imaginable, were by his side at the time of his death. They had become like family to Bill, his daughter, Liz Yokubison of Park City, Utah, and his friend of 34 years, Diane Forrester of Freeland, Michigan. Both women held a week-long vigil at Bill's bedside prior to his passing. Bill was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1934 to Josephine and William Gibson Elliott. His father was a highly respected doctor who passed away too young at the age of 63. Josephine lived to be 84 years old and she and Bill spent the summers of his adult years living in cottages next door to each other on the Canadian shore of Lake Huron. His fondest memories were at the cottage. Bill attended Michigan State University where he graduated with a bachelor's degree and married Janet Lois Thompson on June 29, 1957. He worked for Michigan Mutual Insurance Company while going to night school at Wayne State University and earned his law degree in 1961. In the fall of 1965, he and Janet welcomed their only child, a daughter. A few years later Bill moved his young family to East Lansing so that he could pursue an MBA from Michigan State to fulfill his dream of becoming a law professor. After he received his degree in 1969, Bill became a professor at Saginaw Valley College, now Saginaw Valley State University, where he taught business law until he retired. In February of 1987, Bill married Teri Langer. Her daughter, Stephany (Langer), was five years old at the time and Bill's daughter, Liz (Elliott) was 22. Both only children, the girls were equally thrilled to each have a sister and remain close to this day. Bill was a proud grandfather to boy/girl twins, Alex and Morgan, born July 6, 1999. His grandchildren were born in Chicago, but Liz and her family moved to Park City, Utah in 2004 just as the twins started kindergarten. For many years Bill sent a photo of himself with his grandchildren in his annual Christmas card. He is survived by his daughter (Liz Yokubison), her husband (Ron Yokubison), and his twin grandchildren (Alex and Morgan Yokubison) who all live in Park City, Utah. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 19th at Peace Lutheran Church (3427 Adams Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan.) Visitation will precede the service at 11:00 am and will take place at the Church. A luncheon honoring Bill will immediately follow the memorial and will take place at the Saginaw Country Club. Everyone is welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Stone Crest Assisted Living, 255 N. Main, Freeland, Michigan 48623. Funeral arrangements provided by W. L.
