William passed away peacefully on January 29, 2020 at the age of 94 years. Bill was born to the late Sam and Fernetta (Gagliardi) Janni on March 11, 1925 in Tawas, Michigan. He served in the United States Army from 1944 through 1945. Bill later married his wife Vera Scott on July 13, 1994. The two have been together for 25 years and have eight combined children together. One of his favorite memories was getting married, he was so happy to have found someone that made him so happy.
During his time in the United States Army Bill was awarded several medals; European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with three Bronze Service Stars, a Combat Infantry Badge, a Good Conduct Medal and an American Theatre Ribbon. He was also awarded a Distinguished Unit Badge, World War II Victory Medal and a Lapel Button. After his time in the service he owned and operated Jannis Food Market for over 25 years. He highly enjoyed the children who came to the market and would often give them candy. Bills other hobbies include fishing, hunting, golfing, bowling, gambling and playing cards. Most importantly he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
William is survived by his wife Vera and their seven children; Sam (Janice Stark) Janni, Denise (Mark Walrath) Munson, James (Jeanne Shavrnoch) Janni, Susan (Henry) Coats, Gene (Michele) Brewer, David Brewer and Jill (Doug) Chapelo. Also surviving him are many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Bill was predeceased by his daughter Diana Shilling, granddaughter Sonya Schroeder and eight brothers and sisters.
A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at W. L. Case and Company, 4480 Mackinaw Road. Rev. Ted McCulloch will officiate. Burial will follow in Birch Run Township Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the United States Army and VFW Post 7542, and a bagpipe tribute courtesy of Tom Dillard. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 3, 2020 at W.L. Case and Company and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the American Heart Association or the Dementia Society of America.
