William “Bill” Marshall Shapleigh
Saginaw, Michigan
Beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at his home; at the age of 86 years.
The son of the late William and Eleanor (Marshall) Shapleigh, Bill was born on October 18, 1935 in Dayton, Ohio. He graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering. Bill proudly served in the United States Air Force until he was Honorably Discharged. He worked as a civil engineer at General Motor’s Central Foundry Division for many years of loyal and dedicated service until he retired. Bill then continued working as a real estate agent for Keller Williams. He was on the Board of Directors of the Habitat for Humanity from 2009 – 2014, serving as secretary from 2013 – 2014. He was proud of his 40 years of service to the Saginaw Swimming Officials Association. Bill was involved with the Can-Amera Games. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he was very active and served as a Deacon.
Surviving are one son and one daughter: William Shapleigh Jr., Susan (Chris) Marlow; grandchildren: Bryan Parkinson, Meghan (Trevor) Denton, Brandon Parkinson, Madellyn Marlow, Kimberly (Bourcier) (Josh) Pitts; great-grandchildren: Phoenix and Nova Denton; brother-in-law: Frank Dever. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother and sister: James “Jim” Shapleigh, Roberta Dever; and his former wife: Raye H. Doane.
Honoring the family’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted with W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider First Presbyterian Church or the Habitat for Humanity.
