WHITEHEAD, William (Bill) of Saginaw, Michigan. Passed away peacefully March 15, following a long illness. Born to Hersel Edwin and Jennie (Williams) Whitehead on July 6, 1919, in New Harmony, Indiana. Married Helene Dorothy Bell on October 25, 1942, in Evansville, Indiana. Bill served his country as an Aviator Cadet in the Army Air Corp during World War II. Calling Saginaw Michigan home since 1947, in his earlier years Bill was active in the Lions and Elks Clubs, Saginaw Jay Cees, Saginaw Valley Traffic Club (president); he served as usher and vestry member at St. John's Episcopal Church, and worked as the terminal manager of Interstate Motor Freight System. In 1966 he became self-employed, and began a successful business carrier that lasted for decades. Among several enterprises based in Saginaw and Florida, he served as President and CEO of Whitehead Office Products for thirty years. Outside of business, his greatest interests were thoroughbred horse racing and being with his family. He also enjoyed golf, bridge, poker, annual fishing trips to Canada, and spending summers at Higgins Lake. Bill was a member of Saginaw Country Club, Saginaw Club, Delray Beach Club, and the Kennel Club of Evansville. For many years he wintered in Florida with his wife, Helene, who predeceased him in 2011. Surviving are Bill's son Jett, daughter-in-law Shelley, son-in-law Ron Stanton, and grandchildren Heather (Scott) Stanton-Rudy, William (Nicole) Stanton, Kent Stanton, and six great-grandchildren. Bill's daughter, Linda Stanton, four brothers and two sisters predeceased him. Bill's family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the wonderful caregivers and staff at Edgewood Assisted Living, and to his special caring friend, Dorothy Grady, for their sincere love and uncompromising support.
