In 1966 he became self-employed, and began a successful business carrier that lasted for decades. Among several enterprises based in Saginaw and Florida, he served as President and CEO of Whitehead Office Products for thirty years. Outside of business, his greatest interests were thoroughbred horse racing and being with his family. He also enjoyed golf, bridge, poker, annual fishing trips to Canada, and spending summers at Higgins Lake. Bill was a member of Saginaw Country Club, Saginaw Club, Delray Beach Club, and the Kennel Club of Evansville. For many years he wintered in Florida with his wife, Helene, who predeceased him in 2011.
